MY FIRST REVIEW TROLL (Part 3: The Final Part-ening)

shrek

After my dizzying descent into a sociopathic need for revenge (and the redemption that came from resisting it) I’ve finally come to the end of my review troll roller coaster. And I’m strangely grateful because it’s taught me one thing: people are pretty amazing. For every one person who tries to be a dick there will be ten to pop up and help stop them. Ten to roll their eyes and think, “What a jerk.” Ten to support the artist.

Ten to one. Those are good odds. It’s like this world’s a happy hydra.

And I’m happy too. Because a single mean spirited review is a small price to pay to be reminded that there’s far more heroism and good deeds in one revolution of the real world than all the Marvel and DC comics in print. So don’t ever run the human race down to me. Sure we make mistakes, and act out in destructive ways, but in our hearts we’re superheroes, one and all.

  1. Hi Mr. Abraham.
Good for you, taking the high road.

I recently had a similar experience.
I had a reviewer write a scathing, and hurtful review for one of my books. He then went and one starred all six of my books on Goodreads. I did not do anything, but he then went and tried to join an authors group I to which I belong. Like you, I also have many good friends that were disgusted by this dishonesty, and when he got called out for his malicious behaviour by the administrator, he scrambled to remove the ratings.

I loved ‘The Dane Curse’! I cannot wait to read the next instalment.

    Cheers!
    Your pal,
    Icky. 🙂

    • Hey Icky,
Thanks for the support, ever since I posted that response I’ve gotten a lot of high fives from others who went through the same thing. Personally I think it’s almost worth the crappy review to get those warm fuzzies. (Though it wasn’t nearly as vicious as what happened to you on GR, I hope that person falls into a gorilla pit at the zoo and is beaten half to death by angry apes!)

  2. Hi Robert, Thanks for the support, and I really hope you enjoy the ride with Dane through Gold Coast. I know not everyone will, but it’s awesome you’re giving it a chance. As for my writing, it proceeds apace though fatherhood gets in the way in a most pleasant sense. Seriously, thanks again for reaching out and if you have any comments on what you liked or how to make book three better please don’t hesitate to let me know (if you have the time)!
    Matt
