CRP Book Blog: 5 Stars!

DC

Boom! Another five star review, this time from the very discerning Catherine Rose Putsche. And I say discerning with all seriousness, she consumes only top notch novels from truly gifted authors. Don’t let the fact that she read a superhero noir fool you (I think she was drunk when she agreed to review me, so yay vodka!)

THE READER’S HOLLOW-5 STAR REVIEW

Screen Shot 2015-08-07 at 8.03.43 PM

I’d like to take a sec to thank The Readers Hollow, a great site that gave me a great review! But that aside, if you’re looking for something to read check them out, TRH does a professional job sifting through a lot of books and showcases the best the literary world has to offer. If it’s worth reading, they’ve covered it, and I’m grateful they took the time to read my work. Seriously Erin, if you ever need to hide a dead body* I’m your man!

*not kidding Erin, I got a really good shovel and some cologne that corpse dogs detest!

MY FIRST REVIEW TROLL (Part 3: The Final Part-ening)

shrek

After my dizzying descent into a sociopathic need for revenge (and the redemption that came from resisting it) I’ve finally come to the end of my review troll roller coaster. And I’m strangely grateful because it’s taught me one thing: people are pretty amazing. For every one person who tries to be a dick there will be ten to pop up and help stop them. Ten to roll their eyes and think, “What a jerk.” Ten to support the artist.

Ten to one. Those are good odds. It’s like this world’s a happy hydra.

And I’m happy too. Because a single mean spirited review is a small price to pay to be reminded that there’s far more heroism and good deeds in one revolution of the real world than all the Marvel and DC comics in print. So don’t ever run the human race down to me. Sure we make mistakes, and act out in destructive ways, but in our hearts we’re superheroes, one and all.

COVER REVEAL

Dane_Curse_Cover Final

A special thanks to Dan Strange, my new favorite artist out of England, for my dazzling new cover. Capturing the classic noir detective tone with the necessary soft sci-fi element, this cover’s so beautiful I’d date it if I could. Actually, I’d try to date it. The fact is this cover’s so far out of my league I’d have to wait until it broke up with its last boyfriend and catch it on the rebound when it’s all emotionally vulnerable and willing to lower its standards. But anyhoo, enjoy it!

4 STAR – UNLIMITED BOOK REVIEWS

Screen Shot 2015-07-25 at 9.58.57 PM

Thanks to Unlimited Book Reviews for the kind words, you’re welcome in Gold Coast City anytime!

In a world with super-heroes and super-villains, Dane Curse is a small-time private detective who has left his villainous past behind. When the city’s top villain asks him to investigate the death of the world’s greatest hero, you know there’s going to be trouble, and this tongue-in-cheek mystery doesn’t disappoint.

Written in the style of American pulp detective novels, the story romps along with plenty of humour and action. The editing is pretty good and it’s very readable throughout. Great fun.

Expect some adult content and a lot of over the top violence.

5 STARS – CELTIC FROG REVIEWS

Screen Shot 2015-07-24 at 8.45.04 PM

Thanks to Celtic Frog for taking the ride with Dane Curse, and for the kind words!

Dane Curse is a Black Cape turned P. I. He gets a call from the Syndicate asking him to investigate a case that could set Gold Coast City on fire. The murder of Pinnacle, White Cape and leader of Team Supreme. This is noir detective story with super heroes and super villains. Dane is caught up in the case and finds quickly that not all the black capes hated Pinnacle and not all the white capes loved him. Everyone has an angle, and a lot of those angles involve Dane being dead.

I really enjoyed the book, there are a few superhero series out there, but this has to one of the best. A large part of that is the way even the toughest are made human in some way. They have vulnerabilities both physical and emotional. The plot has some great twists. I had a hard time putting this book down.

If you like old school noir detectives,  you’ll like this book. If you like super heroes and their culture you’ll love it. I highly recommend it.
